Volunteers

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. --Margaret Mead

Region 253 is Currently Seeking Applicants for Important Positions, including Regional Referee Administrator, Referees, Youth Referees (ages 10 and up), a Special Events Coordinator, and a Team Parent Coordinator. WE MUST HAVE VOLUNTEERS TO HELP RUN THE PROGRAM!

Be an AYSO Volunteer  - You'll Love It
We believe that we are running a vibrant soccer program that is expanding and improving every year. However, the more we do, the more we realize that we can do. Not only can we always improve the existing program, we can offer more, if we have the people to do it.

Every Regional Board Member and every coach, assistant coach and referee is a volunteer. Some of our volunteers have played soccer their entire lives and others had never kicked a soccer ball in anger before getting involved with AYSO. All of us do it because it is fun and worthwhile.

Your AYSO program will only improve if more members of our community get involved. If you have interest in a Board position, let the Board know. Volunteer to coach or referee . If you only have a little bit of time, but want to help, we will find something useful for you to do.

  Volunteers are always needed.

Please contact the AYSO hotline at 303-7819 or 303-4957

for all volunteer opportunities.

You can also sign up to volunteer for AYSO Region 253 at:

Nobody

 -Anonymous

This is a story about four people named
Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and
Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it,
but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that,
because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it,
but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody
when Nobody did what Anyone could have.

Why are volunteers so vital?

AYSO is an all-volunteer organization founded upon community involvement. People power runs AYSO. Volunteers strengthen AYSO by giving their time, energy, ideas and ideals.AYSO happens because of our volunteers! A volunteer is someone who believes that people make a difference and is willing to prove it.

Who can volunteer?

AYSO needs volunteers who want to help make our soccer program a fun experience for kids - women and men, young folks, middle-aged folks and the "young at heart!"  There's a place for everyone.

What do AYSO volunteers do?

  • They do what is needed to make the program work.
  • They coach teams and stuff envelopes.
  • They referee games and write checks.
  • They line the field and work in the snack bar.
  • They put up goals and take down nets.
  • They take registrations and raise funds.
  • They bandage knees and schedule games.
  • They put up posters and take pictures.
  • They buy equipment and go to meetings.
  • They call meetings and run computer programs.
  • They make decisions and make a difference.

How do AYSO volunteers help themselves?

AYSO volunteers gain satisfaction and growth from their experiences. They make new friends. They learn new skills. They develop creativity. They investigate new careers. They enrich their lives.

How can I volunteer - I know nothing about soccer?

You probably have a lot of skills that we could use without knowing a lot about soccer.  Check out our list of regional volunteer positions to see if one of these fit's your abilities.  Or contact our Regional Commissioner for additional information.

If you are interested in being a coach or referee, AYSO will train you (free of charge) and provide all equipment necessary.  In addition, you will start your ref experience with the younger teams, progressing to older teams as your experience level and confidence warrants.

But I just don't have the time!

Probably everyone feels this way.  But if no one volunteered, we would not have an AYSO program.  Please contact our Regional Commissioner  or our Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate to find a volunteer position that matches your skills, interest, and availability.

OK, so you convinced me. Now what do I do?

1.    Fill out an AYSO Volunteer Application Form.

  • Electronic volunteer forms are available on-line via EAYSO ( www.eayso.org).  Log on to eayso and follow the instructions.
  • Blank forms (for manual fill-in) are also available at any Region 253 sponsored event mentioned on this website, such as on-site registration, volunteer training (any Safe Haven or coach’s training).
  • If you are a returning volunteer, you can submit a pre-printed application.  This is only available through the Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate. Contact the CVPA  (cvpa@ayso253.org)  for information about this option.

2.   The volunteer application form should be completed in full.

  • This includes providing a social security number and a valid Kansas Driver’s License/ Identification.
  • Online registration allows one to submit this information directly to AYSO on a secured site.  Manual forms will still require that this information be provided (The information is kept secure by the CVPA).
  • 3 references are required using the on-line or the blank form.  Returning volunteers using the pre-printed form are not required to provide additional references unless requested.
  • Make a full disclosure of any criminal conviction (including DUI).

3.    Submit the form to Region 253 IN-PERSON

  • Completion of the process involves providing photo ID verification.  Therefore, merely mailing in the completed application without in-person verification constitutes an incomplete application.
  • On-line applicants still need to provide 2 copies of the form (the social security number and driver’s license will be blocked out by the system) and provide ID in-person.
  • DO NOT MAIL in the application to the registrar or any other board member unless other special arrangements were made.  Contact the Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate at  cvpa@ayso253.org for a special circumstance.

4.   Finally, inquire as to the type of volunteer training that is required and attend that training .   Coaches and referees should take required certification classes.   Other volunteers who will have direct contact with children need to take the Safe Haven Training.  Again, contact the CVPA, cvpa@ayso253.org, for more information.
